Alpaca dryer balls replace commercial dryer sheets and do all that dryer sheets do for you and more without the harsh chemicals. Our 100% alpaca fiber dryer balls are made by us on our ranch in Texas, so we know what goes in them. You can trust that our dryer balls are solid, felted fiber from our very own alpacas. They are unscented and very easy to use. By putting three dryer balls in the dryer with your laundry, you will reduce drying time, aid in reducing static, soften laundry, and help reduce wrinkles. One customer said her dryer balls even help remove lint from her laundry. Dryer balls last a minimum of two years, but many customers use them longer. Our personal dryer balls are going on three years old and still work fine. They are like the energizer bunny; they just keep going and going! If you like to have a scent in your dryer, simply put a few drops of essential oils on one or more of the dryer balls letting the scent soak into the fiber, and that will provide the scent you personally desire.
There are a variety of dryer balls on the market from plastic to wool felted balls made in China. Use of these dryer balls generally does not accomplish the task that solid alpaca fiber dryer balls will accomplish. Many dryer balls have a solid core and fiber wrapped over that; therefore, they are not solid fiber and do not perform as well as our dryer balls because the plastic and solid core do not absorb moisture.
If you are new to dryer balls, you are probably wondering how they work. The set of dryer balls bounce around and separate the laundry making it dry faster. At the same time, they absorb some of the moisture while keeping the humidity level in the dryer at a higher level which helps prevent static. Low humidity and over drying laundry cause most static issues.
Not convinced yet? Look at some of the chemicals found in commercial dryer sheets. A study by Lance Wallace for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and referenced by Julia Kindall on immuneweb.org reveals some of the primary chemicals found in fabric softeners and dryer sheets are:
• Alpha-Terpineol causes central nervous system disorders. It can also cause loss of muscular coordination, central nervous system depression, and headaches.
• Benzyl Alcohol causes central nervous system disorders, headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, central nervous system depression, and, in severe cases, death.
• Camphor is on the US EPA’s Hazardous Waste list. It is a central nervous system stimulant which causes dizziness, confusion, nausea, twitching muscles, and convulsions.
• Chloroform is on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list and is neurotoxic and carcinogenic.
• Ethyl Acetate is on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list as a narcotic. It may cause headaches and narcosis (stupor).
• Linalool causes central nervous system disorders and is a narcotic. In studies of animals, it caused ataxic gait (loss of muscular coordination), reduced spontaneous motor activity, and depression.
• Pentane causes headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, and loss of consciousness. Repeated inhalation of vapors causes central nervous system depression.
These chemicals are on your laundry when you take it out of the dryer. The above list does not even mention the itching and numerous skin issues that many people experience from using dryer sheets.
